Week 4

For the first two days of week 4, I was away due to completing an art test for a company. While I was away, the team picked the concept for the city builder game to be further developed for our client. The decision was discussed with me as well.


Thursday and Friday:

With the concept established, the art team began fleshing out the visual direction of the concept a bit more. We divided into smaller teams to do mood board research and set up a visual style sheet for the game.


I together with Quint worked on the style sheet. We took inspiration from the previously done research on similar competitors together with some other game titles. The aim of the style sheet is to capture the art direction we want to go with. We went into detail about the type of 'stylization' we wanted to go for, so we looked for references in terms of shape and texture languages. Based on the concepts I and Quint brainstormed possible ideas on how we could achieve certain effects for our game.





Friday:

With the first iteration of the style sheet done, I have started working on Art Pipeline Document. The purpose of that document is to serve as a guide when working on the game, containing all of the details from modeling and texturing to VFX and shaders. It should streamline the development process and act as a reference point when making any kind of asset. It will also help with ensuring that everything we make respects the art style that we have chosen. I will be responsible for further developing it in the upcoming weeks.

I have also worked on refining the first iteration of the style sheet a little bit more during the rest of the day.
