Team Blog Week 5: Sprint Review 1

Bijgewerkt op: 6 okt. 2023

In week 5 on 5 October 2023, team Digital Twin Cities had their first sprint review.

· Explain complete/incomplete work.

For the artists, a moodboard was created. For the designers, a one-pager was created, a logo was designed, a cost calculation was made, scrum and kanban were set up. A plan of approach was made by everyone but some team members still need approval from the assessment teacher.

Incomplete work includes mainly artist tasks as the experimenting stage takes a lot of time. The tasks are not specific, which also results in unfinished tasks. Besides, tasks need to be discussed and approved before they can tick off as done. For the design team, they are working on systems designs but they came across issues that took longer to resolve. This resulted in them not finishing the task before the sprint review.

· Team presents completed work.

· What went well?

Design: Stanislav managed to work with another designer (from another team) who was great help with designing the mechanics of the game. They came across a major problem but were able to fix it. Plus, they can use the solution as part for their portfolio now.

Art: The team members can finally get started with creating assets and concepting. A problem is readability in Unreal Engine (balancing details and noise). Though, they are on the right track.

· Problems?

A problem is the lack of knowledge about Unreal Engine by some team members. This can be solved by writing a document that includes content that needs to be researched within Unreal Engine.

Another problem is that there is no version control yet. This needs to be set up.

· Sprint Retrospective: team-reflection + plan of improvement.

Working from home makes some team members feel they are behind of work or excluded. A possible solution could be to set up specific discussions in the week and let members join via voice chat.

From next week onwards (week 6), Quint Winter will be joining another team for 3 days a week. Though, he can be here on Monday mornings to sit with the art team to discuss weekly tasks.

Plan of improvement: Improve online communication, write clear tasks, have a clear overview of goals for sprint review 2.

· Announce next Sprint Review Date: 9 November.
